Ultrasound By Design

3D/4D Keepsake   &   Diagnostic Ultrasound 2D/3D/4D/HD

Ultrasound uses sound-waves which are not known to cause side effects. Ultrasound is not the same as a CT-scan or x-ray, and for this reason radiation is not a risk. There are long-term studies which show no risk of it affecting the growth, or physical development of the fetus.

2D ultrasound is the “most common and most utilized” type of ultrasound when it comes to diagnostic ultrasounds. 2D ultrasound creates a two-dimensional, “flat,” black & white, moving image. Most fetal measurements are taken in 2D due to the fact that the skeletal structures and internal organs are better visualized with this method.

3D ultrasound also uses sound waves to create the ultrasound image, however, unlike 2D ultrasound, 3D ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create a three-dimensional still-image of the baby. This method produces a much more realistic image that appears more life-like. 3D ultrasound allows expectant mothers to view their baby’s face and body with greater detail.

4D ultrasound is very similar to 3D, adding “fetal movement” by adding the dimension of time. This allows us to visualize things such as opening and closing the mouth, kicking, etc.

HD ultrasound is an advanced technology which provides even better resolution, creating an even clearer/sharper, more defined image. In turn, this gives baby’s skin a more pinkish tone.

We prefer to wait until at least 16 weeks of pregnancy. This provides us with a higher chance of accuracy. In most cases we can provide an indication of the sex of the baby. We can’t however guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as fetal position, mother’s BMI, developmental stage, and amount of fluid can all affect the ability to determine sex.

No, we do not accept insurance. For diagnostic ultrasounds: a receipt of the exam AND CPT-codes will be furnished to the patient for insurance-reimbursement purposes. Elective/Keepsake ultrasounds are not covered by insurance.

Yes, you will sign a waiver once you arrive for your appointment (for both Diagnostic & Keepsake ultrasounds).

The success of your 3D ultrasound pictures depends STRONGLY upon how hydrated you are at the time of your appointment.

To get good images, there must be plenty of fluid around the baby’s face. To ensure this, be sure to drink the recommended 6-10 glasses of water per day (64 oz.) in the days/weeks prior to your ultrasound appointment.

This is not something that you can cram in the night before your appointment. Drinking an abundant amount of water the day of or the day before your ultrasound will do absolutely nothing to help improve the quality of your pictures.

Our number one priority is to obtain the best images of your baby and make sure you are satisfied with our service. We use top-of-the-line ultrasound equipment to ensure this. However, some factors that determine the outcome of your ultrasound are out of our control (the baby’s position, location of your placenta, the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding your baby, the clarity of the amniotic liquid, maternal BMI & the overall fetal environment- may hinder our ability to obtain clear images). We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen. Suppose we are unable to determine the gender of your child or obtain 3D/4D images at your scheduled appointment due to these factors mentioned above, in that case you will be asked to reschedule & come back within a week for ONE rescan session at no charge. You will forfeit your rescan if you NO SHOW your free rescan session.

This truly depends on what you’d like to see –
14-20 Weeks: This is the best time to find out the gender but may also get fantastic 3D images of the entire body of the fetus.

20-26 Weeks: This is a fun time for 4D ultrasound (video) due to the baby being more active & yet still small enough to see most of their body at once. However, the baby will likely be breech which is not ideal for 3D/4D face pictures.

27-34 Weeks: This is the best time to get the most detailed and close-up pictures of your baby’s face (3D/4D/HD). The ideal position for best-face-images is when baby is in the head down position. The baby’s face is more detailed and filled out with fat at this stage.
